Children’s days are relaxed and made fun with a balance of adult-led and child initiated activities as required by the EYFS. Children have the opportunity to choose what they want to do and have access to the resources of their choice for the day.
My activities are planned based on children’s individual interests and developmental needs. Once the children can contribute to the planning, their opinions are asked and their suggestions are included where possible. I also look at a child and assess their needs which is followed by a one to one activity to help a child/children reach their Early Learning Goal(s)
Each day I work with a routine that have some structure as this helps the children feel at ease with what will be happening...
Morning – once the children arrive I set of for school runs and after wards I will usually go to a children's centre, the park, library, musical group or play in the garden. I go to a variety of groups including stay and play and story time sessions depending on the day’s children attend. We have a healthy snack during the morning in between play to keep the children going.
Lunch time – we have a family style meal, after which the little ones have a rest or sleep and older children have some one-to-one time following their interests or getting involved in planned activities.
Afternoon – we play either inside or outside… painting, cutting and sticking, story time, cooking, play dough, messy play, water and sand, singing and dancing etc. we also follow time of year or festivals and celebrations at home, in the community or further afield for both morning and afternoon season.
School runs – followed by afternoon snack and lots of play. The older children usually have time to work with me doing homework’s, and planning play.
Tea time – the children occasionally help in the kitchen to prepare their afternoon snack. They help set the table etc. before we eat together.
Please note –
My routine is always flexible depending on the children's individual needs.
In the holidays, activities vary & we often go on days out
Play will be indoors and outside daily.
Free play = spontaneous child-led activities, inside or out
Rest time = a time to re-charge, with books, a short burst of TV, puzzles etc;
Themed activity = play/activity to follow a popular children’s theme, multicultural celebration or book,
Snack = a range of healthy food options, just enough to last until the next meal
